Who was that Idiot…

|
Our module was supposed to go live after months of UAT… and of course, as usual, there were lot of last minute things to do. Meeting was called for. It was attended by heads of many teams from client side, project coordinator, senior manager and us.

I just happened to attend that meeting as it was a high level decision making meeting for GO Live. Various things came up and one that was the sticking point was the OAT. I swear I knew what is UAT and SIT but never heard about OAT. I just assumed it has to be Operations Acceptance Test.

Suddenly the senior manager shouted “Which Idiot Planned it”… “Who is that Idiot…? I want to Know”… No one answered her. No one seemed bothered. None got offended with the words she used. Just a passive look from every one of them.

Ever wanted to see Captain in a role other than him speaking about truth, justice, statistics... or don a role not wearing police uniform...? and that movie to be good?? Then this is the one.

Captain Vijayakanth, in the role of stupid and equally arrogant rich village guy fits the bill perfectly. The major plus point of the movie is the comedy and the way Captain delivers the dialogues during comedy sequences is absolutely perfect. Captain and comedy carry the movie.

Radhika as an unemployed girl coming to work in Captian's house and falling in love with him, does the role good. Jeevitha as the Captain's lover doesn't have much to do. Senthil in Captains group and Goundamani made a scapegoat by Captain was good and different to watch.

Music by Ilayaraja...Mayanginen Solla Thayanginaen... is the pick of the songs...

Directed By Baluanandh and screenplay/Dialogue by R sundharrajan(This explains the good comedy in the movie).

But at times I felt like the movie had a Bhagyaraj touch in it. The hero doesn't change much (Becoming a saint in a single scene...blah blah blah)... It was more real. The climax tells it.

Except for the crass Thali sentiment in the end... It was nice to watch though.

My Hindi...

|
During my days in School, College and for that matter while at work in Bangalore, I was always surrounded by Tamil speaking friends... But after all these travelling... more often than not, most of my friends and colleagues speak Hindi and is always the common mode of communication. I, being a Pachai Tamizhan ;), never learned it in my school days, nor had the enthu to learn it later even though its always good to learn a new language.

Sometimes my friends start talking to me in Hindi and it'll take sometime for them to realize that I hardly get what they say... Even though I never felt handicapped, but at times I feel that I couldn't express myself freely.

Whenever someone asks me about my Hindi, I always reply
"Ek gaav me ek kissan ragu thatha..."

Snail Story...

|
It was raining the other day in Manila, and I and my friends were having coffee near the stairs where we usually use to drink... As it was raining, somehow a snail has crawled along the steps. We were looking at it with much curiosity as how it had climbed all the way over there... After sometime we returned to the same stairs for another round of coffee and found that it had climbed just two steps from where we saw it before... I was just wondering, was the Snail very slow or is it that I'm taking frequent breaks... :)

Unhappy person... Am I??

|
Recent study have found out that We Indians are one of the Unhappiest persons in the world... Ranked at 125 in the world, we are just 50 places above the least happiest nation (Burundi)...

Happiness Index

Just a crude check on the per capita income and the happiness index, one could easily note that its all related to money... Making a generalization one can say, the more wealthier u are the more happy u are... But exceptions are surely there...

GDP Per Capita

Comparing with our neighbor, Bhutan which ranks high above... Not so wealthy, they haven't had democracy for long, or even TV , new fashion or the video games, but surely happy... Its just a shame we are ranked so low...

How to Be Happy

Yes... Population is a big factor... Comparing it at the miniscule level...by just looking at myself.... Am I happy...? There are many of my friends earning 5 digit numbers every month... Are they happy...? Unhappy about Work, about pay... Umpteen reasons for it... Is it time that we stop worrying and start enjoying???

The story of a guy gifted to become the great Karnatic singer, almost loses it after falling in love with a girl(Yamuna). Things get more complicated as the girl he is love is 10 years elder to him and also born to the Brahmin father and Marathi Mother (The illegitimate second wife).Or is it more a lust than love towards her...

The good thing about the story is that the antagonist is the society we live in. Not the Village head... or some rich village guy who is often the villain in many of these kind of movies... instead its how we as a society would look at them. Whether we would accept them as part of us without any second thought...??

Apart from that, the movie doesn’t offer much. The cast: Abhishek; Archana; Joglekh; Nedumudi Venu; Vivek, and directed by Ghana Rajasekaran doesn’t ring any bell. None of them are able to exert any influence on the character in what should have been an emotional ride. The emotions just don’t get across. Many a times you feel like watching a TV serial than a movie. The story was lagging during the initial stages with most the time spent on looking for a groom for Yamuna. The story is much suited for short movie than a full pledged movie. The love between Abhishek and Yamuna was also not conveyed properly and also why is he in love with her except in a scene where he says that he grew up more with her than his mother. But a more convincing answer is that it is more lust towards her than love... as she says so in the final dialogue...

Music by Ilayaraja, and sung by Jesudas and Janaki (whom I could recognize from their voices) are all purely Karnatic of which I know little about to review/ comment about it. But unlike Sindhu Bairavi... it didn’t appeal to casual listener and commoner like me...

Batad - THE Heaven

|
Words can make no justice to this place... Even my amateurish pics...It has to be felt... experienced... lived... The remoteness of this place... The Rice terraces... The Tappiyah waterfalls... The Ifugao tribe... all make this place a truly magical one... That’s why regarded as Eight Wonder of the World by many... One has to be there to appreciate it.... the 2000 yr old work by the Ifugao tribes...

How to Get there --> From Manila, one can take the daily buses operated by the Florida Liner or the Autobus from Cayco St, Sampalao City, Manila direct to Banaue(450 Pesos)... There are so many Rice terraces nearby, but due to time constraint we planned only Batad... The Best of them all... From Banaue, u can hire a Jeepney to reach Batad... Jeepney is a must as it’s an hour and half ride from Banaue to Batad (2000 Pesos. Two ways)... Hire a guide as well if you have to make it fast. Normal charge is around (900 to 1200). From the drop point it’s an hour or so trek to the Batad village. U can see the beauty and the hard work for your self... Pretty good food available in Batad itself... prepared by the locals... From there its another 40 mins to the waterfalls...

Tappiyah Waterfalls: The best waterfalls I have seen till date... Secluded... Virgin u can say... Not many tourists ... actually we were the only ones when we went there...U can feel the force of it once u get in the water...

Old is surely Gold...

Got sick of watching hero footballing 200 guys... Or sick of Kuthu Songs... The so called "Punch Dialogues"... the useless costly sets... the lack of creativity... the copycats... too much Heroism... or the lack of different genres... or Just sick of "Perarasu"....

I for one got sick of all that's dished out by the new movies... Hero's bashing other hero's in the movies... all saying they are the next Rajinis... I feel much better watching the old ones than the new ones... Im not saying all new ones are bad... but mostly they are... the directors never try different things... Always the style and the theme are the same as that of their other hit movies....

But look at the varieties by the Balachadars, Bharathirajas , Mahendrans, Bhagyarajs of that era... with Viswanathan/Ramamurthy and Ilayaraja Masterpieces... Might be because I watch selected Old movies... I found there are no Blog or sites reviewing Old tamil movies... I will write about the movies I watch... might be useful to those who are interested...

Stupid, Smart and the Loser....???

Everyday I used to take taxi from my apartment in Makati, Manila to the office in Macapagal Blvd.,Pasay city. Today too I started to office early at around 11 AM ;) and took a taxi. Once getting in, I told the driver about the drop and he thought about it for a second and said "Meter plus 20 Pesos extra". This is very common over here. Sometimes they ask so much (if they see a foreigner), that you will surely be tempted to use the FOUR letter word(200 for a 60 Peso ride)... I was in no mood to give anything extra, so said "No...Only meter...". He asked me to get another taxi... I got down and took another taxi to office. The meter showed 70 pesos and I had only 100 Peso notes in my pocket... I gave the driver 100 Pesos and after a second he said
"No Change"...

Do We BOTHER???

|
Two Jordanian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations in Haiti have been shot dead in a volatile district of the capital, Port-au-Prince.

"I didn't want to marry, it was my parents' decision," she said. "I dreamed I would be able to finish my education. I had no choice."

We used to eat meat five times a week, and we can only do it twice now. The children don't drink milk three times a day but once for breakfast

Nearly two dozen people were injured as police opened fire in air and used batons and tear gas to disperse thousands of protesters who turned violent

This is NO Tarantino film and I’m NO Tarantino either... But unfortunately all are related to the rise in food prices across the world. They are excerpts from various news articles on rising food prices and how it’s affecting people around ME and YOU... Does anyone of us BOTHER???

Liverpool… Liverpool… Liverpool

|
What a week for all the Liverpool fans… Liverpool winning 4-2 on the memorable night against Arsenal… All would say that Liverpool had a share of luck in both the legs against Arsenal with the dubious penalties, but I don’t care as long as we are winning. To say that the best team lost is nonsense. Yeah I agree that Arsenal were too good for Liverpool during the opening 20 minutes, but its all Liverpool after the Sami Hyppia goal... and what a wonder strike from Torres… absolutely fantastic… Had Mascherano squared up for Gerrard instead of Torres who was offside, it would have been 3-1 then, and game over.

But equal credit to Arsenal for such a wonderful game. Never gave up. Pushed till the end… but they had to… It’s the only trophy both the teams were playing for (Unless Arsenal beat ManU over the weekend). Great run by Theo Walcott for the Arsenal second goal. From deep inside the Arsenal half to the Liverpool penalty box to setup Adebayor for the crucial second goal which almost got them through. Great stars are born that way… Hope Walcott grows up to be great footballer (Liverpool wanted to buy him before being prized away by Arsenal).

Arsenal was also to blame for losing it big time… First is Eboue playing in wing He was so awful throughout the day and Wenger for bringing in Walcott so late in place of Eboue. Then the glaring miss by Adebayor. It was a sitter. Henry would have buried it (He showboats as if he is better than Henry). And though the Babel’s penalty was little dubious, how on earth did they allow Babel run to their penalty box immediately after kick off following the second goal. Only the replay of the second goal was going on before the penalty was awarded.

Great penalty by Gerrard though. Don’t know how he manages for Liverpool in those nerve racking moments but not for England??? and the cool finish by Babel for Liverpool’s fourth… Liverpool on the way for the 3rd final in four seasons… and I couldn’t stop myself singing…

My Version of the "Madras to Pondicherry" story... Not as interesting as the original one but surely has raised mixed emotions in me.

Nov Last Week: My last week in Japan. I really felt sad about leaving Japan. I missed my friends, weekend travels, Ultra clean city, Tokyo Metro, Friendly Japanese people and lot other stuff... I have traveled so much in Japan, North South East and West of Tokyo, I don’t have a count of the places I have visited. One thing I was happy about leaving was the work. One that has become so routine and boring as well and I was all alone too.

Dec 1st Week: Returned to India after hectic last few days in Japan with loads of handover, last minute issues, tickets booking and of course farewell parties ;) . As I was supposed to stay in India for only one week, had to do offshore handover, FOREX settlements, Philippines VISA, blah blah blah... All official nonsense...never had time to spend some time with my friends in Bangalore. Not even had time even to finish the Bottles which I bought in Duty-free. But the next 5 days I stayed in my home town was really memorable... Played cricket daily with my friends... met my cousins... and of course home food after a long long time.

Dec 2nd week: I landed in Philippines on Dec 11th... the land of babes and beaches and that’s true... u can find good looking girls everywhere... The density of good looking girls is so much that one surely will be awestruck and jawstruck ;) (Jollu in Tamil). Now after 4 months here I don’t miss Japan anymore now… Beer, babes and beaches… That’s what gets me going nowadays ;)… Lots of things to know and lots of places to explore…

Life doesn’t/hasn’t change(d) much… Only those who I travel with have changed… (Moral of my story/ Thatuvam of the Day)…
